My Story

Dr. Marna Ghiglieri
Occupational Therapist | Certified Aging in Place Specialist

I discovered the field of occupational therapy (OT) in the early 1990s while working as a counselor at a psychiatric facility in Southern California. After earning a masters degree from USC, I practiced OT in both mental health and physical rehabilitation settings. When my children were young, I worked as an OT in Home Health. Our family moved to Yolo County in Northern California in 2005 and since that time, I have primarily worked with older adults.

After many years of practice as an OT, I returned to school to earn a doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy at Washington University in Saint Louis, where I specialized in healthy aging. While there, I had the rare opportunity to live in a community specifically designed for older adults (I was one of just two WU graduate students selected to live in the building as "student residents"). During this time, I completed research, gained valuable knowledge about how older adults view the aging experience, and identified solutions to enable them to better participate in day-to-day activities that provide meaning and purpose. I received a doctorate in OT in 2019 and for three years worked as an assistant professor for the OT program at University of the Pacific teaching clinical assessment and OT across the lifespan.

In August of 2022, I resigned from my full-time teaching position so that I can devote all of my effort to my business, Home Today Consulting Services, designed to maximize home safety and wellness.
